Exploring Art Final Exam Project

Arts Knight 2018 Painted Poster:

Create a painting that advertises Arts Knight 2018.  

The painting must use 3 surreal techniques to combine
imagery from three master artworks while also including
the information:

“Arts Knight 2018: March 15th, 5:30-8:00pm” (72 points)

 

FINAL PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:

PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN

EMPHASIS: Surreal painting advertising Arts Knight 2018

BALANCE: Full space of paper should be thoughtfully used

UNITY:  Successful combination of 3 master works and lettering
into one unified painting

CONTRAST: Demonstrate 3 SURREAL techniques combining
imagery from 3 DIFFERENT masterworks as well as a variety
of values (lights and darks), textures, colors.

• Surreal techniques:
• Juxtaposition- combining characteristics of 2 or more objects
• Size/scale change
• Dislocation-images in a place they don’t belong
• Levitation- floating images
• Transformation- change of property of an image
• Transparency- being able to see through an object that
• isn’t normally transparent

MOVEMENT:  Eye should be led throughout the painting by placement
of imagery and letters.

PROPORTION:  Letters should be 2-4” tall.  Size and placement
of other imagery should be thoughtfully considered.

PROCESS:  Follow the directions of the project

CREATIVITY AND ORIGINALITY:  Create something that has
not been created before.  Push yourself to try new things.

QUALITY CRAFTSMANSHIP:  Neatness counts!  Consistent
use of materials

PROCESS:

1.  Choose 3 masterworks from the list below to use for your painting.
 Circle or highlight

2.  Create 4 thumbnail sketches to plan your ideas for your project and
figure out how you’re going to use surreal techniques to combine imagery.  

3.  Choose a font for your letters. You may print out letters or use stencils
to trace letters if that helps you.  Letters should be 2-4” in height.   

4.  Create final painting.
